Towing 2013 Jeep Wrangler Behind RV with D-Ring Mounts on Aftermarket Bumper

Published 10/16/2019

Question:

I have purchased a RM All Terrain tow bar 6,000#, for towing by jeep behind our fifth wheel. My jeep has the plastic factory bumper and I would like to upgrade it to an after market steel bumper. Could you recommend a bumper with D ring points that are satisfactory for towing. Or could you recommend a base plate that could be used with some of the after market full width front bumpers?

You can definitely install a good aftermarket steel bumper on your 2013 Jeep Wrangler to be used with your Roadmaster All Terrain Tow Bar like the Falcon # RM-522, however none of the bumpers we currently carry are rated for towing. My best recommendation is to simply search online or talk to a local Jeep dealer to see what type of bumper with D-ring mounts they recommend, find one that you think looks awesome, and verify with the manufacturer that it's rated for towing.

Once you replace the plastic bumper with this type of aftermarket unit you can use Roadmaster D-Ring Bumper Mounts like # RM-035-1 for 1" thick D-rings or # RM-035 for 3/4" D-rings. These will attach to the D-ring mounts on the bumper and connect right to the arms your Roadmaster Tow Bar.

I have attached a sample install video below so you can see exactly how they work.

In order to flat tow your Jeep Wrangler you will also need a lighting solution and supplemental braking system. If you don't have these already I recommend the Hopkins # HM56200 that will plug right into factory ports behind the tail lights to provide a 4-Way connector at the front bumper to connect with the RV and sync your Jeep's lights to it.

Then for a braking system I really like the Brake Buddy Classic 3 # HM39494 that will physically press down on the Jeep's brake pedal in correspondence to your braking in the RV. It's easily transportable when it's not being used and has an excellent reputation.

I have attached a few video reviews that you can also take a look at.
