The back wire on the Replacement Control Unit for Kwikee Electric RV Steps part # LC379146 is for an under-step light which is only available on select models. If you do not have the under-step light then you would simply just not connect the wire. I have attached a diagram for you below that shows the under-step light not to be confused with the actual step light which is carried out by the purple wire.
