Economical Option for Trailer Wheel With 5 on 5-1/2 Bolt Pattern and Trailer Tires

Published 08/30/2019

Question:

Thanks for the response. I guess I need to rephrase the question. Eventually I will purchase new axles. I really need to purchase rims and tires. I would like to purchase minimal parts to convert my 5x5.5 bolt pattern to hubs that will fit 5K-7K axles. My current Warner brakes are 12x2. The axle flanges that supports the brake backing plate is round and has 5 holes. I know that I can buy Dexter electric brake assemblies that will work with my current Warner drums. 1. Are there 6 and 8 lug hubs that will fit my Warner brakes and spindles? I2. If the answer is no to question one, do you have complete brake and drum assemblies that are compatible with my current axles/spindles?. Thank you, Darren

It sounds like you are just looking for the most economical way to add trailer tires and wheels with a 5 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern but are concerned they won't fit when you replace your axle. Realistically this is a valid concern and your axle may in fact not have spindles that accept a hub with the same 5 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern so you may need to get new wheels and tires when you decide to do that.

For now, the most economical option for you to wheels and tires is first with the Modular Trailer Wheel - 15" x 5" Rim - 5 on 5-1/2 # TA37RR and the right tire, which will depend on your trailer's GVWR because you will need to select a tire that exceeds your GVWR. The most economical options for a load range C tire that fits this wheel is the following:

- Loadstar ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range C # AM1ST92 (1,820 lb capacity)

Thanks for that additional info and while there may be hub and drum assemblies that fit your current spindle you will need to have a bit of information in order to determine this. In order to find the correct replacement hubs for your trailer you need to know the weight rating of your axle, and also what bearings your current hub has. You will need to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you need to use Digital Caliper # 301-17068 and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings and grease seal ride. You can use the photo I've attached to see exactly where you need to measure. This information will allow you to choose the right hub. For example, the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum for 5,200- b Axles - 12" Diameter # 8-201-5UC3 has a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern and uses inner bearing # 25580 (1.75" inner diameter), outer bearing # LM67048 (1.25" inner diameter) and grease seal # GS-2125DL (2.125" inner diameter). They will work with 12" brake assemblies such as # AKEBRK-7-SA. I have added a link to our entire selection of hubs and brakes for you to take a look at once you have this information or you can let me know what it is and I'll try and find the right parts for you.
