• How to Find the Correct Idler Hub Replacement for Boat Trailer
  In order to find the correct wheel bearings, you can take apart your hub assembly and look at the bearings themselves; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part number stamped directly on them. If you are unable to find them, you would need to use a digital caliper such as # PTW80157 and measure your spindle to the thousandths of an inch where the bearings ride. • How To Remove A Trailer Hub Cotter Pin
  Hey Thomas, The pin you're referring to is a cotter pin # 165649 that will slip through the a hole in the spindle and then is usually split and bent around the castle nut to prevent the pin from falling out and the castle nut from backing off. I recommend wiping off some of the grease so that you can get a better view of the pin and then using some needle-nose pliers bend the two ends of the pin back together. I usually try to clamp them pretty good with the pliers to help straighten them...

• Is A Spindle Washer Needed To Go Between The Outer Bearing And Castle Nut
  Hey Mike, The washer is there to place even pressure on the bearing so that it doesn't bind and build heat. Since it butts up to the end of the outer bearing it will help protect it from any burrs on the back of the castle nut and help hold the grease in. I would put a new washer # SW1000 in and see if you can get the hub pressed onto the spindle enough to get the cotter pin # 165649 through the spindle.   Hello Andrew. I had a cotter pin for an ez-lube spindle part # 165649 laying here on my desk so I grabbed a micrometer to measure. With both halves of the pin pressed together is measures 0.11". Each half of the pin is like 0.05". I edited a picture to help illustrate. When you grease the spindle you are forcing grease around the pin.
