Blue Light On Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller Stays On with Vehicle Off

Question:

My unit does not go into sleep mode. The lighted nob stays on all the time after I unplug my trailer. Also, when you push and hold the control button it does nothing. I have been unplugging the unit to shut it down, usually the next day. Has been like this for the last two trips.

The controller will actually wake up from sleep mode when the door is opened so that's likely why you still see the blue light on even with the vehicle off and trailer unconnected. This is common for all brake controllers including the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller part # RED44FR. If you peek through the window, you should see the light on the controller go off after about 15 minutes of inactivity.

Guys the blue light stays on all the time and I have power at the back of the car going to the brake wire on the 7 pin plug, as soon as I hook the van up the brakes are on on the van. Thanks in advance for your help Cheers john

@JohnH This sounds like a short between the brake output circuit and the 12 volt accessory circuit of the 7-way. I would check the wiring behind the 7-way to see if you can find any obvious shorts and fix as needed like cut wire or corrosion. Also check the pins of the 7-way as well.

@JamesonC all the wires are pretty good at the plug and no shorts

@John You said the brakes are on on the van...does that mean you are applying the van brakes or the brakes are somehow applying?
