Question:
It appears I have a wire issue between the fuse blocks at the front of my 2012 Nissan Pathfinder and the trailer connector. All lights on trailer work except running lights. Can I pick up power for the running lights out of one of the taillights?

Splicing into your 2012 Nissan Pathfinder's tail light could work but could also create some problems. Some vehicles don't have enough power in the tail light circuit to power additional lights and you might start blowing fuses. If possible you really want to isolate the issue and fix the wiring if you need to. It sounds like you have checked all of the fuses and they are good. It also sounds like you have already isolated the issue down to the Pathfinder's wiring and not the trailer side wiring. It is a good idea to make sure you check the blue and brown relays that come with the wiring harness for the Pathfinder part # C56226 as well. They are located behind the passenger side kick plate in the cab of the Pathfinder.
The next step is to check the ground connections on the Pathfinder. Make sure all the ground connections are grounded to a clean, bare metal surface.
If you have not done this already, check the running light circuit on your Pathfinder's 7-way with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. Check the tail and running light circuit on the vehicle 7-way for power. I have attached a diagram that shows the circuit positions and their functions. If you get power from the running light circuit on the 7-way, then the issue is not with the vehicle's wiring.
If you do not get power from the running light circuit on the vehicle's 7-way, unplug the 7-way trailer connector from the Pathfinder's towing package plug and test the circuits on the factory plug. I have attached a photo of what that connection looks like. If you are getting power at the factory tow port and not at the plug then you can replace the plug with part # C56226.
If you are not getting power at the factory tow port then you may need to replace the running light wire. You will have to cut the wire loom out of the way and trace the running light wire checking it section by section for damage. If you find damaged wire that section of wire needs to be replaced. If you are not able to find damaged wire and you still do not get power to the port, you can either replace the whole running light wire or try to connect to the tail lights at this point.
Please let me know if you are still having the issue and we can troubleshoot further.
