Question:

Hi etrailer folks.......I have two Kenda 4.8 - 8 K478 tires with the following markings: K478-005, 26?55128 K478-008, 26?55037 the ? represents an odd looking symbol or letter that I havent seen b4 Is the date of manufacture coded into these numbers, and if so, how do I read them to determine the date?

Expert Reply:

The DOT number code will be stamped on one side of the tire, near the bead area. This tire identification number will start with the letters DOT, then the next two numbers or letters are the plant code where the tire was manufactured. The last four numbers represent the week and year the tire was built. For example, the numbers 0410 means the fourth week of 2010.

I took a photo of the DOT number and date code on a 480-8 tire, part # AM30000, that we have in stock for you, see link. The date code on this tire is 2511 which means it was produced in the 25th week of 2011.

The date of manufacture is not indicated in the numbers you listed to the best of my knowledge.
