Question:

I was curious what size bottle jack I need for my trailer? I have a spare tire for my 5x10 utility trailer but no jack... do most people just use their pull vehicle jack or is it wise to buy a bottle jack for the trailer if I need to replace the tire/wheel.

It is wise to keep a bottle jack handy for any trailer tire replacement. The vehicle jack is often designed to specifically go with that vehicle and the capacities can be very different as well as the style for proper function as the frames can be very different.

For your 5x10 utility trailer, I recommend the Powerbuilt Bottle Jack - 6-3/16" to 12-1/16" Lift - 4,000 lbs # ALL640405 which depending on your loaded trailer weight should be more than sufficient. If you need more than 12-1/16 inch lift, then I recommend the Powerbuilt Bottle Jack 8-1/4"-16-5/16" Lift - 24,000 lbs # ALL647501. I've attached a few videos one of which shows the trailer axle lifting location. You will want to make sure the shortest listed lift will fit under your trailer axle so you won't have clearance issues with a jack that is too tall to fit.

You may also want to consider the Curt Wheel Chock Set # C22800 to secure wheel on the other end of the axle when changing a tire.
