Question:
2015 GMC 3500 Installing a Tekonsha P3 with a 3016-P harness. Why do I still have to run a wire to the back and cut the blue wire?

In order to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 on your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 all you need to do is find the brake controller port under your dash and then use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3016 to mate it to your brake controller so long as you don't have a factory integrated brake controller.
However, if your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 does have a factory integrated brake controller then you will need to bypass this by running a wire from the 7-way at the rear to the brake controller in the cab. I have attached a help article on this process for you as well. I believe this is what you were referring to but if not please just let me know.
