Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2007 Chevy Silverado

Updated 02/12/2019 | Published 02/11/2019

Question:

What is the hitch capacity for a 2007 Silverado 1500 crew cab. I bought it used and there was no owners manual. I have read the factory tow package was only rated to 5000 LBS and a 500 TW. I am in the process of getting a new trailer that weighs 5000 dry and wondering if I need to upgrade the hitch. Thanks

When I looked up the online version of the owner's manual for your 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew Cab it looked like the least rated option was still 6,700 lbs and that is if you have the 3.23 axle ratio. If you look at the online owner's manual (can be found a variety of ways) then you can pin point your weight rating.

It could be that the trailer hitch included with your tow package it only rated for 5,000 lbs towing/500 lb tongue weight but that is something you can find on the trailer hitch itself to verify.

If this is the limiting factor then I recommend upgrading to the Curt # 13932 if you have the Classic with the aftermarket Roll Pan Bumper, the Curt # 13339 if you have the 10" Deep Drop Bumper, or the Curt # C15323 if you have the standard bumper 1500. The last 2 options will increase your weight carrying capacity but the 1st option will only do so if you are using a weight distribution system with your towing setup.

It would also be beneficial to add an aftermarket transmission cooler to your pickup but I would need to know if you have the Classic or New Body, and what size engine you have before I could make a recommendation for you.
