Size Difference Between 4.80-12 Tires and 175/80-13 Tires

Question:

I have a 1996 magic tilt boat trailer that has 4.80-12 tires on it currently with 4 on 4 bolt pattern was going to move up to the 13inch for better ride, was planning on buying the new rim tire package and was wondering how big of a hight width difference I would be looking at upgrading to the 175/80/13 thank you

A 4.80-12 trailer tire and wheel such as the Kenda # AM30630, when inflated will measure 20.7 inches in diameter and have a width of 4.9 inches.

A 175/80-13 trailer tire and wheel will measure 24 inches in diameter and have a width of 6.6 inches so you do need to measure to ensure you have the necessary clearance.

A great option for a 175/80-13 trailer tire and wheel with a 4 on 4" bolt pattern is the Loadstar # AM3S130 which has a galvanized wheel or the Loadstar # AM3S120 which has a white wheel. Both of these have a load range of C with a capacity of 1,360 lbs when inflated to the max 50 psi.

I have added links to video reviews of these wheel and tire combos for you to check out as well.

@Tommy Possibly. It depends how much clearance you have in your fender/wheel well area. You want at least 3" between the tire and the fender, and at least 1" between the inside of the tire and the frame of the trailer. If you can measure the clearance with the current tire setup, that will tell us if you can do larger tires and what size would fit.
