Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2010 Ford F-150

Updated 06/30/2026 | Published 10/16/2018

Question:

Hello. My truck was in a wreck while hauling a small trailer. All is well, but I want to replace hitch. I haul a 5000 lb rv and, thus I would like to ensure hitch is good. Insurance suggested to replace. My question is, would the hitches sold here able to be used as a replacement and or upgrade? Thanks

We have a few options for your 2010 Ford F-150 that will work well with your 5,000 lb RV. I've linked the page to all your hitch options.

For the strongest hitch, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Class IV - 2" # C14002 which is rated for up to 10,000 lbs. This will be a replacement and an upgrade from your previous hitch. It will install to factory holes already present in your truck frame, so no drilling is required.

Does anyone make a hitch for a 2010 that bolts into the existing three bolts per side plus bumper brackets that’s greater than 5000 pounds

@Paul a hitch like # C14002 will bolt on but it doesn't come with bumper brackets. Are you trying to replace a factory hitch? You would have to get bumper brackets off of another truck that doesn't have a factory hitch to replace those. None of the available hitches use three bolts per side in the frame.

@RobinH Thx for quick reply I can find after market match to replace factory but it’s only 5k capacity I called dealer they have part number 9L3Z 17D826B But it’s on back order till mid august - also he was not able to tell me the capacity of the stock hitch When I go online to see what the capacity range is for the stock vehicle is 6100 pounds up to 10,000 or 11,000 depending on drivetrain ratio, etc. Our truck has the 54 L and the 373 axle so it should be able to pull more but again I’m still trying to figure out if the actual stock hitch is capable to do so
