Should Trailer Hangers be Spaced Equally Apart on Tandem Axle Trailer
Published 09/28/2018 >
Question:
Is it acceptable to have a slight difference in the lengths between the equalizer and the outside hangers. Didn’t notice I needed a slight gap for wires to fit behind until it was already drilled. I figured worse case I re wire in a different location and could obligate the holes in trailer to slide the hanger back about a “1/4. Needed to know what you thought before I bolt up the other side

Ideally you want the hanger spacing to be the same on a dual axle trailer like what you are building but a slight difference may not cause any issues. The shorter spacing that you have between the equalizer and one of the outside hangers essentially results in a leaf spring stack that is just a tad too long. The only thing you will want to watch out for is the chance that the shackle straps on the equalizer can make contact with the trailer frame. What you can do is manipulate the suspension on the trailer so that it flexes to see if the shackles come up and hit the frame. If this doesn't happen then you shouldn't have any problems with your setup as it is now.
