Troubleshooting Both Turn Signals Flashing With Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit
Updated 10/13/2025 | Published 09/16/2018 >
Question:
Hello I just installed the above converter on my 2018 Grand caravan, which has LED lights. Most everything works except that the Right Turn Trailer Light flashes for either Right or Left Turn signals in the vehicle. Vehicle Turn lights still work OK. I double checked the wiring and the Left Turn converter input receives 12 volts for a Left Turn, but the output goes to the Right Trailer output. It looks like the Converter has failed?? Do you agree??

It is pretty unlikely the converter failed if the issue is that both turn signals turn on when you engage the right turn signal.
Instead the issue is almost certainly a poor ground which is causing this. I would re-check the ground connection with the Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit with 4-Way Flat Connector # HM48895 and ensure it is grounded to a clean, bare metal surface free of any type of paint or corrosion. In most cases when you have one signal turning on both, the ground connection is going to be the issue and I'm guessing that's the problem in your case as well.

So mine is doing the same thing. Turn on the left turn signal and the right trailer signal blinks. Turn on the right turn signal and the right trailer signal blinks. How is this possible with left and right being connected to separate wires. It the converter bad?
