Question:
I have a 2014 ford transit connect XLT that had a trailer hitch installed but not the wiring. I have tried to order the correct wiring from three different places but have had no luck. The mechanic that attempted to install the wiring tried to plug it in behind the rear light as instructed but found that the plug had six tines while the plug on the vehicle had eight. Although I did not see it I have to believe that he knows how to plug-in a connector. The last place I tried to order the part was from the trailer experts Dukes in Louisville Ky that the Ford dealer advised me to go to because that’s where they have all their work done. They said they have never seen a plug with eight connectors. Can you help me. If you need a picture of the plug I am talking about I can get it tomorrow.

Many of the 4-pole trailer wiring kits we sell will install at the vehicle's tail lights. The harness connectors on such kits install in between the vehicle plugs and the tail lights themselves.
For the 2014 Ford Transit Connect we have three such products, all shown on the linked page, and all of these use custom connectors selected to match those on your vehicle. Of the three we have I recommend the Tekonsha # 118613 since we find their wiring products to be the most reliable.
If you refer to the linked photo you will see both sides of the tail light connectors that are part of the harness. One of these plugs will join the OEM wiring on the vehicle and the other will join the connector on the tail light. This arrangement allows the harness to get access to the lighting signals for the trailer while still allowing them to operate normally on the vehicle. All three wiring kits for your vehicle use these same connectors.
So long as these connectors match those on your Transit Connect's tail lights you do not need to worry about there being additional electrical contacts. But if the actual connector type on the vehicle is different/incompatible with the ones on the harness we will need a photo (like the one I linked) that shows us the details on your connectors.
