Ball Mount For Extending Trailer Distance When Using Boat Ramp

Updated 06/29/2018 | Published 06/27/2018

Question:

I understand the capacity of the hitch lessons when you add the extensions. My need is only when launching and retrieving the boat and trailer on a ramp. I would prefer to not have to put the rear tires in the water. The extension will never be used on the road only from the yard to the ramp and back. I have a superhitch now and was going to extend the trailer tongue but this would be much easier and still leave the trailer unmodified and able to tow on the road without the extension used. Boat is 8500 lbs with a 2 axle trailer.

The problem that you are going to run into is the weight of your boat and trailer. The Reese Hitch Box Extension, # RP45292, has a maximum weight capacity of 8,000 lbs, but that is only if you are using a weight distribution system which isn't commonly used on boat trailers. If you aren't using a weight distribution system, the max capacity is only 6,000 lbs. Unfortunately we do not offer a hitch extender that can handle the weight of your boat and trailer and I'm not aware of any extender out there that can.
