How to Correct Rust on Trailer Hitch

Question:

I purchased a Curt hitch for my Honda CRV a few years ago and it is really rusty. Is this covered by warranty? It should not have rusted this much...

The protective black powder coat finish on a Curt or Draw-Tite hitch like # C13119 does eventually break down from exposure but this is not considered a warranty issue. This normal wear and tear can best be addressed by applying a new layer of rust-inhibiting spray paint, such as Rust-O-Leum brand or a similar product you can find at any local hardware or paint store.

Sanding off the rusted areas before applying the paint is recommended.
