Is Transmission Cooler Needed When Towing With 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan?
Updated 05/01/2018 | Published 04/29/2018 >
Question:
I plan to tow a travel trailer with a gross total weight of approximately 3200 lbs. with a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan towing capacity of 3800 lbs. I have a weight distribution hitch with sway control. Should I be concerned with upgrading the engine cooling systems ie: transmission cooler and/or radiator fans, or is the stock equipment sufficient for the towing weight? Thank you.

A transmission cooler will be helpful when towing with your 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan. Towing naturally makes the vehicle work that much harder due to the added weight, which can result in overheating; a transmission cooler is going to work directly to keep overheating at bay while extending the life of your transmission so it's something I would recommend.
For your 2015 Grand Caravan, a great choice would be the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13503. A plate and fin cooler is a highly efficient option which is 11" Wide x 8-3/4" tall x 7/8" deep. I've added a link to a video review as well as a link to a video of this cooler being installed on a Grand Caravan so you can see what the process is.
