Registering Trailer With a VIN But No Title

Question:

has a vin #on the tongue i called the dmv they looked upthe vin but nothing came up how can i get it registered in my name the guy i bought it from didnt have a title

Since you have VIN number, you will simply need to get a bill of sale since he didn't have a title. The DMV won't have record of the trailer because it hasn't been registered with a title yet. With the VIN and a Bill of Sale, you will be able to get the title you need and get it registered.

I do have a vin and I can produce a bill of sale but I was told that id need the manufacturers certificate of origin but thats impossible so what can I do?

@TonyC If you can't obtain a certificate of origin from the manufacturer, your best bet would be to contact your DMV to see what your options are.

I have the same problem. No title, no registration,and DMV said I have to have something, but when I had a deputy fill out the form for lost title, The VIN came up not as my 1992 camper but as one built in 2022. something's fishy but I'm not sure where to turn now...I know it was licensed 2 owners ago, but where can I go for help to track things? I think they mistyped the VIN in the first place...a lot of dead ends. sigh...
