Replacement Hub/Drum Assembly Needed for a Dexter 8-147 Assembly

Question:

hello I have a 1982 goldrush car trailer that I bought many years ago, the drum-hub is part # 8-147 inner bearing is LM48548, my question is I want to upgrade the wheels and drums to newer parts like conventional 5 or 6 lug wheels and 15 inch tires! are there any newer drum-hub kits available to replace my drums so I would be able to use a more modern wheel. thanks

Your drum/hub that is the Dexter 8-147 part number should have an inner bearing # LM48548, an outer bearing # L44649, and a grease seal # 58846. If this is the case then we do have some hub/drum assemblies that would work great for your application.

The hub/drum assembly that I recommend using is the part # AKHD-545-35-K which is compatible with 3,500 lb axles and has the bearings and seal that fit your spindle. It fits 10" brake assemblies so you will want to verify that on your end.

This assembly has the common 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern which will fit most standard 15" wheels that use 5 lugs. You could use the Taskmaster Provider # TR20515D for the tire and a #AM20422 for the wheel. This is a ST205/75R15 radial trailer tire on a 15" white spoke wheel. It has a load range of D (2,150 lbs at 65 psi) and a speed rating of 81 mph. They would need mounted at a local shop. You do want to verify that the tire section width of 7.99" and the overall diameter of 27.17" will fit correctly with the fenders on your trailer.

I have linked some videos for you to check out as well.

I have the 8-147 Dexter brake hub and wonder if I can still obtain one to replace a damaged one. Upgrading to new hub is not of importance since I would then have to buy new wheels as well, increasing my costs. Thankyou

The etrailer # AKHD-545-35-K is what you would need for a replacement hub/drum. I'm not quite sure what you are actually wanting to replace. Do you just need the brake assembly? If so, you can use # AKEBRK-35L for the Left Side or # AKEBRK-35R for the Right Side.
