How Much Height to Hitch Does Reese Adapter # RP30156 Add in a 2018 Ford F-250

Updated 03/30/2018 | Published 03/29/2018

Question:

What is the height of the adapter upper surface where the hitch rests measured from the adapter surfaces that rest on the factory bed pucks? Would like to use adapter with Reese Titan 16K on round tube slider on 2018 F-250. I am concerned with added height due to adapter which I am told is 3 1/2inch or double the height of ISR.

The Reese Elite Under-Bed Rail Adapter you mentioned, # RP30156, is just under 3 inches tall at 2-15/16 inches.

To compensate for the additional height you can adjust your 5th wheel hitch to the lowest setting it can go to and still function (on Reese slider hitches you cannot use the lowest setting). Or you can raise the pin box on the trailer if there are mounting holes above the position the pin box is in now.

If you have already done these things and the front end of the trailer is still too high then the remaining option is to raise the height at the back of the trailer. You may be able to use over under conversion kits to achieve this extra rear height.

If you do think raising the trailer in the back is the way to go then you may be able to use an over/under conversion kit if:

The trailer leaf spring stack is currently mounted under the axles
The trailer uses double-eye springs
And the trailer has 2-3/8 inch or 3 inch diameter round axles

For a 2-3/8 inch round axle use # K71-384-00 and for a 3 inch diameter axle use # K71-385-00. One kit is needed per axle.

If you cannot use an over/under conversion kit then the only other way to raise the height of the trailer is to have the old suspension hangers cut off and new, taller ones welded on by a qualified professional welder. I have included a link to the hanger main page for you.
