Question:

Can you make a recommendation for a tow hitch for a 16 XC90 inscription. How much ground clearance will be lost? It will be used to tow an Airstream and also used to pull trailers both open and closed to a property that has uneven terrain. My concern is with the terrain being uneven while the house is being built, the car could bottom out. How much effect would this have on the back up sensors? Thanks for all your help!

For your 2016 Volvo XC90, I recommend the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13233. This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your vehicle and requires a bit less vehicle modification for installation when compared to the Draw-Tite model hitch that is also available for your Volvo. It will provide you with a 2 inch receiver that will work great for accessories or towing.

When we installed this hitch on your 2016 XC90, we measured a distance of 12-1/2 inches from the ground to the top of the hitch receiver. You can also take a look at the attached image for a better view of the vehicle ground clearance with the hitch installed. The trailer hitch will not affect the functionality of the backup sensors on your vehicle.

Please just note that Curt does require that all non-trailer loads, such as bike racks and cargo carriers, be supported with stabilizing straps like # 18050. I have attached a short video demonstration on this product so you can see exactly how it is used.
