Recommendation For How To Power An A-Frame Bulldog Powered Trailer Jack Power

Question:

My husband purchased an A-Frame powered Bulldog jack to replace the manual jack on my 1997 horse trailer. It is rated for 4,000 pounds and the trailer employ is 2,500. My local help had voiced concern that the wiring to my current plug in my F350 2002 won't be heavy duty enough to power this over time. My easy installation has been stalled out. Is this a real concern and is their an easy fix? It is mid March and my Christmas gift is in a box in my dining room. Tensions are building.

Technically, your A-Frame Bulldog Powered Jack, Item # BD500199, can be powered by the 12 volt circuit on a 7-Way trailer side connector which is in the 1 o'clock position where the wires connect if looking at the back of the 7-Way connector. However, the vehicle side may not have enough rated power for the jack which needs 30 amps. If there are other draws on the power then you could easily overload the wiring and even "burn-up" the 7-Way connector on 2002 Ford F-350.

To have peace of mind and power for you Bulldog Jack, I recommend going with a trailer mounted battery. If you choose the trailer mounted battery option, I also recommend using a battery box to protect the battery and keep it more secure.
