Procedure for Adjusting Reese Friction Sway Control Kit

Updated 03/06/2018 | Published 03/04/2018

Question:

While adjusting the friction on the sway bar, Bob G. writes making a series of road test. What am I looking for to determine if I should put more or less friction on the sway bar? BTW, I do have two sway control bars. The first came with the trailer when we purchased it. The second I purchased from your website August or September of 2017. Had back surgery, so just now getting around to installing the left side March 4, 2018. Vehicle 2016 Ford F150, Super Cab. Trailer 1984 Avion, 30R. Thank you,

When going out on the road to test the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 after installation, you will just be looking for any issues with sway, specifically when passing larger trucks or during wind gusts. There's not any one thing that you are trying to determine, but simply getting a feel for how the trailer is pulling and how everything is handling, increasing or decreasing the tension on the adjustment bolt as needed. You will make adjustments (if any are needed) until the desired control is achieved and everything handles smoothly.

I have attached the complete installation instructions for this sway bar that you can also take a look at. The adjustment section starts toward the bottom of page 2.
