Question:
I have a 2013 Allegro Breeze with a LCI 118174 power step. It has stuck open for the second time. The 1st time, I replaced the control module 164889, and door switch. Now stuck again. Could the motor be bad ? I have owned this motorhome for 1 year, and I want the step to be dependable. If I choose, what replacement step assembly is available ? Thanks

If the motor in an RV power step is bad you will usually not hear any sound from it when you apply power. You can test it directly with 12V power from a battery, bypassing much of the associated electronics, to confirm the motor itself is bad. Applying power right at the motor terminals will tell you if the motor or the circuits feeding it are bad.
If the issue is the mechanical linkage you will typically hear bad noises from the step as it extends or retracts.
Before you buy any more new parts what I suggest you do is clean and treat ALL of the connectors in the whole system. The issue could be simply oxidized/corroded contacts in one of the connectors. Since these parts are exposed to road grit, salt, water, etc. they can suffer deterioration. Since the coach is 5 years old this would not come as a surprise at all.
You can try an aerosol electrical contact cleaner (Caig, CRC and WD-40 all offer several) on any suspect connectors and then apply protective dielectric grease # 11755 to those clean contacts to prevent moisture and dirt from causing further issues.
If you cannot correct the issue I suggest replacing the step with a new one that matches its step count and dimensions. Motorized RV steps are available in several sizes, all shown on the linked page. Select the number of steps you need and the overall width of the step unit. Then simply compare to your step the mounting hole spacing we provide for each step we offer.
