Modifying the TracRac SR Sliding Truck Bed Ladder Rack for 2018 GMC Canyon with 5 Foot Bed

Is there any reason why I cant cut the 6 ft base rails to fit a 2018 Canyon 5 ft short bed? It appears that only 3 holes would have to be drilled 1 for the stake pocket and two for the safety stops.

I reached out to my contact at TracRac and the Sliding Rack # TH43002XT-783 has not been confirmed to fit on a 5 foot bed, so even though there is a very good chance it would work with the minor modifications you mentioned, it would void the manufacturer's warranty. They will not cover any modifications.
For a confirmed fit, you can use the fixed mount TracRac TracONE Truck Bed Ladder Rack # TH27000XT-EX or the Pro2 # TH37002XT.
