Question:
Hi, I've been reading many of the comments provided on these hitches and would appreciate a little more feedback before I make a purchase. I'm trying to determine which would be better for me. I have a GMC 2500HD with a BandW hitch and a 36 foot Columbus 320RS. I'm leaning towards the flexair but have some concerns about the rubber pad which I've read has tendencies to shift and/or come out. I have briefly looked at the Reese Airborne as well so if you have any feedback that would make me strongly consider that unit I would appreciate that as well. Thanks in advance for your time and help!!

Let me start by stating the first step to finding the best option for your situation is to know your particular pin box style/number. The pin box number will be listed on a sticker on the pin box or stamped on the king pin.
For example, if you have a Lippert 0719 pin box on your trailer then the Trailair Air Ride, Item # LC179879, and the Trailiar Flex Air, Item # LC328484, would be good options. Both look very similar but the Flex Air has a few upgrades that the Air Ride does not.
The Flex Air has a rubber compound that you referenced that really absorbs road shock. The Flex Air also has a pivoting head that gives you more controlled back and forth movement with the king pin. Some customers have had challenges with pad shifting but most have had no problems. Manufacturer has also been good to help when this occurs or replace the pad. For an overall better ride with less chucking, I recommend the Trailair Flex Air, Item # LC328484.
You mentioned the Reese Airborne which is also a great upgrade. However, you will need to match your pin box. For your weight needs, you would need the 5th Airborne Premium Fifth Wheel Coupler for 21,000-lbs, Item # 5AB-E1621-610. The Reese is designed to fit the Fabex 665, Lippert 1621 and 1621 HD, and the M&M 665. It has a heavy duty shock absorber and enclosed air springs that create a very smooth ride.
I have attached additional information to help with your project. Send me your pin box style/number and I will be glad to make a specific recommendation that works for you and your needs.
