Flex Air or Air Ride Pin Box with Companion 5th Wheel Hitch

Updated 08/11/2017 | Published 08/09/2017

Question:

Flex Air or Air Ride pin box. I have a Grand Design Solitude 360RL 5th wheel 39 with a Roto Flex king pin. I need 2-3 inches more king pin drop to raise the front of the 5th wheel above the pickup bed rails, so am considering replacing the king pin with either of these 2 models. I have a Companion hitch. Which model would be most beneficial? Since the Companion already has the pivoting head, is the Flex Air necessary? Would it provide too much pivoting? I also tow a 6000 lb boat behind the 5th wheel legal in Montana. Thanks for any input.

One thing to ensure is that your Companion hitch is at the tallest height setting. This could provide an easy solution for connecting your king pin.

I spoke to my contact at B&W, who confirmed that your Companion is compatible with both pin boxes. I also spoke with Trailair, who said that the Flex Air would provide you with over 6 inches in additional height. The Flex Air would also be the best option for eliminating chucking and creating a smoother ride.

We offer the Flex Air pin box for model number 1621 pin boxes in both 18,000 lb and 21,000 lb capacities. The lighter capacity can be found here: # LC328492. The heavier capacity can be found here: # LC369535.

I've attached a demo video of the Flex Air for you to check out.
