Question:

What is involved in installing the Curt hitch. Does the bumper have to be removed? Does it disable the hands free trunk opening feature even when there is nothing in the hitch?

If you install a hitch like the Curt part # C13290 on your 2018 Mercedes GLC300 it's not going to interfere with your parking assist feature as long as you don't have a bike rack installed in the hitch.

When installing the # 76082 you will need to temporarily lower the exhaust, temporarily remove the lower fascia, and temporarily remove the bumper beam. The fascia of the vehicle will either need to be lightly trimmed to allow the hitch to fit or you can let the hitch slightly move the fascia when installed. From the instructions: "TRIM OR PUSH HEAT SHIELD: Trim around the hitch as needed or simply push the heat shield forward away from hitch." If you check out the install instructions link I attached you'll see the entire process walked through with color photos. Your tailgate will still open with your foot but you'll have to swing your foot to either side of the hitch opening.
