Locking Hitch Pin Recommendation for a Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack

Question:

I have a 2.5” hitch with a 2” adapter.. Everything works fine, except I’m concerned that the thin black side pin may pop out while driving. That side pin is the only thing keeping the 2” adapter inside the 2.5” hitch. Can it be tightened, so it is hard pop out? I sort of snaps in place and is relatively easy to pull out. Thank you.

I believe you're looking for a more secure hitch pin solution, in which I have just what you need!

Check out the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitch - Flush # e98882

This is a locking hitch pin that will lock through your hitch receiver to secure your Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches # TH83JV.

If you have thicker hitch walls on your hitch, then you'd want to use the etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches # e98881, which is an 1" longer than # e98882.

Attached are a couple of product overview videos for you to check out as well.

I found this post while searching for a better pin system for my Thule T2 Pro XT, do these pins need to go all the way through? I think my bike rack only has a hole on one side for that springloaded pin Thule uses.

@Paul Paul yes, the pins do need to go all the way through on your T2 Pro.

@BryceD so I have to drill through the thule t2 xtr bike rack to better secure my expensive bike rack? is there anything internal I need to look out for before I drivee through the bike rack?

@Jd If the pin that comes with the bike rack works you don't need to do any drilling. If you wanted a longer hitch pin, then you do need to drill into it and there are some internal components that would get damaged. I'd avoid drilling into your rack if possible.
