Question:
I have a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4x4, which base plate do you recommend ? What is the difference between the XL and the MX for this truck? Is there a base plate kit available that the tow hooks can be left on?

In regards to the question about leaving the tow hooks on, the base plate brackets fit into the slots where the tow hooks are on your 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 so they would need to be removed. The difference between the Roadmaster MX # RM-3176-3 and Roadmaster XL # RM-3176-1 is that the XL is compatible with quick disconnects and all Roadmaster tow bars while the MX will work only with the Roadmaster tow bars that slide into a trailer hitch and the EZ Hook safety cables included with Roadmaster's Sterling tow bars will not work with the MX. Further, the MX will not accommodate the Guardian rock shield, Tow Defender, Stowaway or the StowMaster and StowMaster All Terrain tow bars.
Due to the restrictions on the MX I recommend the Roadmaster XL # RM-3176-1 for your 2016 Silverado. These base plates have been extremely well-received by our customers with 400 reviews it has gotten close to a 5-star rating. I've added a link to the installation of these plates on a Silverado for you to take a look at as well.
