Question:

Can the 2016 Jeep Compass Sport tow a small camper trailer? And what would I need to do to set my jeep compass up to do that?

You can tow a trailer with your 2016 Jeep Compass Sport and we have the parts to help you get it ready to do so; however, you need to stay within the limited capacities of the vehicle. From my research the most any Jeep Compass can tow is 2,000 pounds. To do so requires the 2.4L engine with either the Trailer Tow Prep or Off Road packages. Other models are limited to only 1,000 pounds. I recommend checking your owner's manual to verify these numbers.

If you are going to be towing with your Compass I recommend using the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75712. This is a Class III, 2 inch hitch designed specifically for your Jeep. Then to power the trailer's lights use # 118539 for a wiring harness. I've linked install videos of both for you.

You'll also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I've attached a link of our selection of ball mounts for a 2 inch hitch receiver as well as an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop you may need. Once you choose a ball mount you can then choose a hitch ball to fit it.
