Is a 2 Inch Hitch Available for a 2010 Toyota Prius?
Updated 10/30/2017 | Published 10/28/2017 >
Question:
I am looking at trailer hitches for a large bike rack. One of my cars is a 2010 Toyota Prius and the video describing the hitch for that says it is a 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 hitch, but the bike rack calls for a 2 inch hitch. Is this just i.d. versus o.d. and yours is a 2 inch hitch which will work for me or is there a larger hitch available for the Prius?

The only available hitches for a 2010 Toyota Prius have 1-1/4" receiver openings and are Class I rated. Class I racks are limited to carrying two bikes, though there are some that have an available adapter that allow bikes to be used with either a 2" or 1-1/4" hitch.
For a hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe # 24847 because it will not require the use of stabilizing straps with a bike rack the way the Curt hitch will. I've added a link to a video install of this hitch on a '10 Prius as well as a couple photos showing how this hitch looks with bike racks installed. If you'd like a recommendation for a bike rack with this hitch please let me know and I'd be happy to help.
