Difference Between Chrome Plated Steel Hitch Ball and Raw Steel in Terms of Corrosion Resistance

Im trying to decide between the curt C40087 or C40036 2inch rise hitch balls. My trailer is 5500 lbs, so the 10K capacity is enough, but Im wondering which ball is more durable in terms of wear - the raw steel or the nickel chrome finish. We tow in Utah in the desert in sandy/dusty conditions. Price aside, which ball will be more durable and wear better? Thank you,

A chrome finish ball # C40036 is going to look good but it will not be corrosion resistant. A ball with a machine finish like # C40087 , is going to have about the same corrosion resistance. In terms of performance they will wear at about the same rate under normal use.

The best balls in terms of corrosion are going to be stainless steel

Power runs to the backup camera part #FOS05TASF when the trailer is put in reverse. There is a switch in your reverse wiring that trips the camera to turn on. You do have to be plugged into the 7-way on your towed vehicle.
