Helpful Expert Reply:
The Atwood carbon monoxide/LP gas detector # AT36681 has a 7-year lifespan. That is assuming that it is regularly maintained according to the manual, linked for reference. Be sure to test the detector often to ensure it is functioning properly.
Provided that the unit is functioning properly and within its lifespan you would not have to change it. But at around 7 years, even if working perfectly, it would be time to get a new one. This information is specifically for these models so be sure to check the specs on any other models you may be interested in.
