Installation of Hopkins Molded 7-way Trailer Connector
Published 09/14/2017 >
Question:
Trailer had a 6 pin with electric brakes, wire colors are green, yellow, brown, red, white and black. Everything worked when I used an adapter from6 to 7, but I got tired of looking for the adapter and am trying to install a 7 pin plug. The issue is what wire do I connect from the trailer to the plug for the brakes? The black is ground on this trailer , from looking at the picture, white is aux, red is positive.

You will need to connect the wires based on function and not on color since your trailer colors do not match. The color to function connections for the trailer plug are:
white = ground
black = 12V
green = running lights
brown = right turn and stop
red = left turn and stop
yellow= reverse
blue = brakes
