My 2013 ram brake controller was working fine until I had to change my 5th wheel axles over to dexter, same electric brake system Brakes work off the pedal, but not off the dash control squeeze knob Dash message system says trailer not connected and check brake wiring Help

If your Ram's OEM trailer brake controller actually sends out a brake signal when you press the pedal (meaning you can feel the trailer's brakes engage when you're driving) but it does NOT send out any signal when you press the manual override lever, then the unit is damaged internally and should be replaced with a high-quality aftermarket unit.
You can test the controller's output right at the truck's 7-way socket if you have a circuit tester like # PTW2993, or a multi-meter like # PT89ZR. Disconnect the trailer, set the OEM brake controller for maximum power and maximum boost, and apply the grounded tester to the ground and brake circuit contacts (at the 7 and 5-o-clock positions as shown in the linked photo). Have a helper press the manual override on the controller as you test. Please see the linked video. If you do not detect a signal from the manual lever but the brakes on the trailer do operate when you press the pedal as you tow, then the OEM unit is damaged and should be replaced with an aftermarket controller like the popular and reliable Prodigy P2 # 90885 using harness # 3023-P.
