Where Does the Clip on Leaf Spring Need to be Facing When for Installation

i notice on my leaf springs for my trailer there is a band or clip that goes around leafs on one end, does this go towards the front of trailer or rear

The clip that you are talking about that is on your leaf spring, like part # e54SR, is called the rebound clip. It keeps the main leaf spring from breaking on a rebound.
Typically the band is located on the front-most side of the trailer but it doesn't always have to be installed oriented that way. If you have already installed your leaf spring and it is on the rear-most side of the trailer it is nothing to worry about. If you look at the installation video I linked you can see that we installed one facing one way and the other is facing the opposite way.
