All four manufacturers, Demco, Husky, Curt, and Reese are great companies that have been in the 5th wheel towing business for a long time. I would have no problem recommending any of them for a towing setup.

Since your 1999 Dodge Ram has a 6 foot bed you will need a sliding 5th wheel hitch to give you extra turning clearance for those tight turning situations.

The best 5th wheel sliding hitch that we have to offer is from Demco. The Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch enables you to make those turns without without having to get in and out of the cab of your truck to engage and disengage the sliding 5th wheel. It also has one of the best hitch heads as well due to the double-pivot feature and the 360 degree wrap around jaw with the solid steel locking bar for additional security. For standard base rails there are 3 different options - the 13K # DM8550040, 18K # DM8550034, and the 21K # DM8550035.

The next step down, which is a little more cost-effective, would be to go with the Curt A20 # C16541 that has a sliding feature which is manually operated. The Curt has a pivoting head which makes hooking up your trailer easy, even on unlevel ground. It also comes with a dual-jaw system which provides full 360 degrees of contact around the king pin.

If you do not already have base rails installed in your Ram then I recommend installing the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP30035 which gives you industry standard base rails that are compatible with any of the 5th wheel hitches that I just mentioned.

If you do not already have a 7-Way connector mounted into the bed of your truck then I also recommend installing the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Connector # C56001 which will make connecting and disconnecting the 7-Way from your trailer much easier.
