Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2006 Toyota Highlander Bypass Incomplete Factory Wiring
Published 08/10/2017 >
Question:
I have a 4 pin out on a bracket next to the hitch,no signal. I have the toyota hitch or assume because the cap says Toyota. the 4 pin flat went back and was ty-wrapped to the frame. found the hole and pushed that square 4 pin into the drivers side brakelight area under the storage area, I found a mating connector 4 pin square... plug it in and nothing. check it and no voltage. made sure the fuse was in up in the fuse box. so I have been doing enough research to see that the with factory wiring, the harness you sell plugs into a 10 pin connector. and I have that 10 pin connector. So looks like I need the adapter/connector you sell. but I feel I must just be missing something. the car obviously was equipt with the towing package. I had to plug the 4 pin flat in via the 4 pin square? okay so they didnt at the factory. but why would I be missing the adapter that plugs into the 10 pin and then goes out to the 4 pin.sure enough one side of the 10 pin has my signals and the other side goes to the 4 pin square I mentioned, but nothing to link or adapt in other words the 10 pin is not plugged. do you know if that was an upcharge and you didnt get the adapter unless you specifically order it? or is the factory one hidden. there is absolutely nothing I can find anywhere in that compartment that would plug into the 10 pin and make it work.

Trying to complete factory wiring on a vehicle can be a headache as it can be very difficult to find out where the missing link is on the wiring of the vehicle. It's possible you could find a wiring diagram for your vehicle and trace everything that way to verify that everything is good but I have an easier overall solution that's priced pretty well too.
The trailer wiring harness part # 118413 would make your life much easier. All you have to do is plug the connectors of this harness inline with the taillight connectors of your vehicle and you'll have a fully functional 4-way.
I attached an install video for this harness that shows it installed on a 2006 Toyota Highlander just like yours.
