Which Trailer Floor and Wall Screws are the Best Recommendation for Rust Resistance
Updated 04/20/2011 | Published 04/19/2011 >
Question:
You have two types of flooring bolts: regular black oxide? and ACQ-treated. I realize the ACQ is for pressure-treated wood, but would it also offer better rusting resistance vs. the regular type?

I would recommend to use the treated torx screws for ACQ treated wood for better corrosion and rust resistance. The treated torx screws like the Redline 2-1/2 Inch Long Torx Trailer Screw for ACQ Treated Wood, part # TFX250ACQ, are plated with a material that will resist the ACQ preservative which is very corrosive because of the high levels of copper it contains. When using ACQ timber it is necessary to use double-galvanized or stainless steel fasteners.
The plating material used on the treated torx screws is said to be comparable to stainless steel as far as rust resistance, but less expensive.
