Question:
Is there any reason why I should/could not mount the 3 x 6 cypress boards on the narrower 3 inch sides instead of mounting them vertically on the 6 inch side? I know the boards will bear the weigh of the boat. On the other hand I've been considering using the CE Smith Double U-Bolt Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies - Galvanized 9 1/4inch - Qty 4 - CE10190GA-4.

Expert Reply:
Even if the boards can bear the weight of the boat, by concentrating the weight on a smaller, 3 inch surface, there is a greater risk to denting or deforming the hull of your boat compared to having the boat's weight spread out over a larger surface.
To install your bunk boards, the assemblies you mentioned, the Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies # CE10190GA-4 are the best overall option. They attach with a pair of U-bolts # CE15283GA-8 each for connection security, and both the brackets and U-bolts are made right here in the United States of America.
