Bike Nearly Came Off of Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack Twice
Updated 06/09/2017 | Published 06/08/2017 >
Question:
The first time I assumed I had done something wrong...But the bike came loose a second time!!! The front tire clamp down did not stay tight and had bounced it way ALL the way over the front tire. Bike started to come off the back of the trailer. Is there a chance the click latch mechanism is worn and needs replacing? I have lost confidence!!! Valuable bikes...

When you say "Bike started to come off the back of the trailer" does that mean that you are using the T2 Pro XTR # TH69TX on the back of a trailer? If so then that could be the problem. The issue is that there is significantly more movement and bouncing at the back of a trailer compared to the back of a passenger vehicle. Because of this not all bike racks can be used at the back of a trailer or RV. The T2 Classic is not rated for this application so that significant movement could be what is causing the problem. I have included a link to the bike racks that are rated for this application.
If the rack is being used at the back of a passenger vehicle then the problem you are having definitely should not be happening indicating that something is wrong with the bike rack; most likely a problem with the ratcheting mechanism on the affected arm. If that part is defective it would be covered under warranty since the T2 Pro XTR does have a limited lifetime warranty which would cover manufacturing errors.
