Question:
m looking at buying hitch for my lance 2285, dry hitch weight is 615 and loaded guv at 6000. i was looking at the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW Item # EQ37100ET. Would this be too stiff for my trailer. I like the Reese Strait line but do not want to drill in the frame if I do not have too.

When looking for a Weight Distribution (WD) system you will first need to figure out the Tongue Weight (TW) of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer. You will then take that and add the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Once you have that total, you will then need to make sure that the WD system that you pick out has a range where your total falls inside of.
Normally your trailer TW should be between 10-15 percent of the weight of your trailer. Since you said that the loaded weight of your trailer is 6,000 lbs, that puts your max TW at 900 lbs if it were at that 15 percent mark. The Equal-i-zer that you referenced, part # EQ37100ET, has a Gross Towing Weight (GTW) of 10,000 lbs, and a TW Range of 600 lbs - 1,000 lbs. As long as your TW doesn't go over the 1,000 lbs mark (keep in mind this includes cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle as well), this WD system is a good fit for your application.
