Wiring a 2011 Audi Q5 Without Using A Powered Converter Box

Question:

I am an owner of a 2011 Audi Q5 and I am using a Wesbar module to connect to my boat trailer EZ Loader. So far I was successful connecting the Wesbar module-part number 707295 and my lights are functioning with no problems. However, the module is attached on to the trailer, instead of being hardwired into the vehicle also, the module isnt the powered/fused and to the black wire from the battery. In your video, you are demonstrating an installation for the above vehicle using the C56200 kit which you guys dont offer any more. My questions to you are as follow. 1. Will I be able to hard wire the Wesbar module in to the car-using your instructions, although it is not a Curt module? 2. Since the Wesbar module has no power cable, will that pose any problems? Could you provide me with some help?

There usually is a reason why a powered converter is used in the wiring system of a vehicle. When a powered converter is used, it is usually because your vehicle's wiring will not provide enough electrical power to handle the additional electrical strain when powering your trailer lights.

Your Wesbar harness and module is not rated to be installed on your Audi. If there is a problem, the problem would be that the vehicle's wiring cannot handle the additional load from the trailer wiring harness.

However, Curt does offer a wiring kit, # C59236, that will fit the 2011 Audi Q5. The kit includes a powered converter that will wire directly to the battery to reduce the strain on the Q5's electrical system. The wiring kit will connect directly to the Audi Q5's wiring with the included installation hardware.
