Should Sealant be Used on Propane Gas Line Fittings
Published 12/14/2016 >
Question:
I installed this device with no problems including testing it several times for leaks... no leaks. Many people keep telling me that I need to use the yellow PTFE tape on the threads to ensure I dont have any leaks. I know that I shouldnt use tape on the 1/4inch flared connection but what about the main two connections from the large female POL and Male ACME threads? Thanks for the advise.

Expert Reply:
Yes you should use some kind of sealant on threaded fittings whether it is the tape or pipe dope. We recently had a propane manufacturer visit us for training so I can say for sure that yes you should use a sealant on threaded fittings. No sealant though on the flare fittings just like you said.
