Dimensions of Redline Replacement Exterior Pop-Up Roof Vent

Question:

Is the 8inch width the actual width of the part or is it the width of the gasket that goes under the vent? I have a 2014 Ford E-250 van I want to install these on the roof. The raised panels on the top of the van look to be just 8inch wide.

The entire length and width of the Redline Replacement Exterior Pop-up Roof Vent # 9106 are 13-1/2 by 8 inches. The opening measures 9-1/2 by 4 inches. I've attached a picture that may make it more clear.
