Why Does Tekonsha Brake Controller Have Light that Stays On When Vehicle is Off

light stays on all the time even when key is turned off is it time for a new one and con i just unplug the old one and plug in the new and go

The controllers are designed to stay on after the vehicle is turned off for several minutes. If you leave the truck untouched for several minutes the controller will go into sleep mode. Also, the light draws such a small amount of power that it would take months for it to drain a vehicle battery.

The reason this is a good thing is that you don't lose the presets you selected on the controller. If you cut all power to the controller it would have to be set back up again after every use.
