The best trailer wiring kit we offer for your 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon is the Curt trailer wiring harness part # C56040 as it installs very easily and has the highest amperage rated converter box which allows it to be the most resistant to internal issues caused by trailer wiring shorts.
I attached an install video for this kit for you to check, but basically it plugs into an easy to find port at the rear of the vehicle and you are ready to go! The attached picture shows where you'll find it once you remove a couple interior panels.

I have an 2020 Outback Limited XT and the connector location is neither right or left. In mine, it’s rearward of the spare tire, dead center, under the lip of the entry threshold. Couldn’t be easier!

2020 Outback Touring XT connecter is located behind the spare tire (towards bumper), slightly towards passenger side. As mentioned above, super easy no tools needed.

On the 2020 Subaru Outback Touring XT the connection is back near the tailgate latch. Just pull up the trim and it is taped to the back wall. One problem with this recommended wiring package is that the tail light voltage on this vehicle is 6V instead of 12V since the tail lights are LEDs. This won't activate the relay in the CURT C56040 so we don't have running lights on the trailer with this kit. Is there a relay you sell that we can add that will trigger the running lights using the constant 12V? I can wire it myself but the point of purchasing this recommended C56040 was so that I wouldn't have to wire it myself. Thanks.

On my 2020 Subaru Outback Onyx XT the connection is on the passenger side, not the drivers side as shown in your attached photo. The photo really helped though, thank you very much, as it directed me to the correct area whereas the instructions I had and a different video that I watched indicated a completely different location but apparently correct for a 2019 model.I did use the Curt 56040 making the install plug and play once I found the plug and I did not even have to remove any panels other than the spare tire cover.
