Question:
I have a Lexus 2010 RX350 without towing package and I installed this T-connector and hitch. I connected the connector to the car. but I do not know if this connector is working or not. Some people said this is only connector without any juice from car. How do you verify this connector is working?

Expert Reply:
The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Connector, # 56083 is for the 2010 Lexus RX350 with a tow package, so it is not designed to work with models that do not have a tow package. According to the installation details linked below, some vehicles will need to be reprogrammed at a dealership to allow this wiring harness to work. This harness draws power and signals for the trailer lights from the vehicle wiring.
Apart from connecting a trailer and testing the left/right turn and brake, and running lights at home, you can test your harness to see if it is working properly or not using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. Check each pin on the 4-Way with no trailer connected while running through left/right turn and brake and running lights. If all pins show a signal, the harness is working. If they are not working or partially working, you will need the wiring harness for RX350s that do not have a tow package.
Without a tow package, you would need to use Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118478. I have included a link to the installation details below. This harness includes a circuit protected converter and requires a direct connection to the battery. This connection to the battery virtually eliminates power draw from the vehicles taillights, which protects the sensitive wiring.
